Overview

Wagamon is a hill station located in Kottayam-Idukki border of Kottayam district of Kerala, India. It has a cool climate with the temperature between 10 and 23 °C during a summer midday. It is situated 1,100 metres above sea level. Vagamon was discovered by the British who found the place ideal for tea plantations and they were followed by Christian missionaries who built their abode of service at Kurisumala in Vagamon. National Geographic Traveler has listed Vagamon on their directory of the '50 most attractive places to visit in India’.

Season Timing :

Rainy days in Wagamon are even enjoyable due to its magical aura. It lies between May to September. One can also plan a tour to Wagamon Kerala during the time period of October to March; the weather is cool and dry during this time.

The Cochin International Airport located at Nedumbassery is 100 kilometers away from Vagamon

By Road

It is easily accessible by road from Kottayam and Cochin. Vagamon is located 39 km from Thodupuzha, 33 km away from Palai, 45 km from Kumily, 22 km from Kuttikanam.Direct bus links from Thiruvananthapuram, Cochin, Kottayam, Munnar & Madurai

Things to Do in Wagamon

You can enjoy a plenty of things to do in Wagamon hill station in Kerala as it is a spot gifted with several natural wonders. The most revered activities not to be missed are :

Theekoy Valley Drive :

To have a glimpse of the flowers valley, take a route passing through scenic landscapes that leads to the Theekoy Valley. The trek will be mesmerizing for you as you will cross the valley of flowers overlooking the vistas of the mountains and clouds. In the valley of flowers you will see a thousand colors of flowers.

Boating :

1Kurisumala Ashram :

An ashram that combines the Hindu spiritual thought with Christian beliefs is considered as a serene land due to its cool and calm ambience. A Belgian Cistercian Francis Acharya started his spiritual journey at the heart of the Sahyadri Mountains; now the monks lead here a spiritual life admiring a life of physical culture and mental purification. Surprisingly they earn their livelihood by producing milk from cowherds raised by them and honey from beehives found in the jungles. They do meditation at the highest point of the hills known as The ‘Resurrection Garden’. Tourists coming here to experience a new lease of life do name it as “divine”.

2Teekoy :

Wagamon hill station tour always includes visit to the village Teekoy dotted on the hills near the river bank of Meenachil River. One must visit here the waterfalls and the rubber plantations. There is various trekking routes lead to various exotic locations of the village. Trekking to a point one can have the clear view of the Aleppy port. People have a belief that a life-giving plant called ‘Neelakoduveli’ grows on the top of the hill.

3Thangalapara :

A Muslim pilgrimage destination dotted on the Thangalpara hill where is located the Mausoleum of Sheik Fariduddin. The hills of Thangalapara are unique due to existence of shrines of the three religions -Hindu, Muslim and Christian.

4Murugan Hill :

It houses the Murugan temple which is believed to be the seat of the Lord Muruga, the God of destruction.

5Mooppanpara:

It is a v-shaped canyon, one of the admired view points as well acknowledged as a suicide point. The outlook from the summit of the strenuous climb is amazing

6Indo-Swiss Project Dairy Farms:

Indo-Swiss Project dairy farms is situated on the Kurisumala hill. The dairy farm is managed by the Kurisumala monks.

7Vagamon Meadows:

The rolling green meadows of Vagamon has a lake amidst them. It has for long been a favorite location for shooting movie songs.

8Pine Forests:

A valley having huge lofty pine trees lined in rows.
