The south Indian state Kerala, hub of backwater and ayurveda tourism is linked to other cities of India and the world by national and international airports. One can reach this state easily flying down from overseas. Millions of international tourists flock this state of India for its natural beauty and various resources of tourism. The three airports of Kerala are Trivandrum International Airport, Cochin International Airport and Calicut Airport also known as Karipur Airport.
Cochin International Airport :
Cochin International Airport is located at a distance of 30 kilometers from the city centre of Kochi (old name Cochin). It is also known as Nedumbassery airport as it is located here. The busiest airport of Kerala Cochin International Airport gets a huge traffic through out the year. It is the first international airport of India run by a public limited company namely Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL), and 10,000 NRIs invested in this company.
Cochin International Airport is built in traditional Kerala style of architecture. All the modern amenities of airport are found here. It has both domestic and international flight operation. The international flights are Gulf Air, Qatar Airways, Singapore Airlines, Air Lanka, Air Maldives and Air India. The domestic flights operated from this airport are Indian Airlines, Jet Airways, GoAir, Indigo Airlines, Jetlite, etc.
Trivandrum International Airport :
The foremost airport of Kerala, Trivandrum International Airport is situated in Thiruvananthapuram, the capital city of Kerala. It is about 4 kilometers from the city centre and 16 kilometers away from the Kovalam beach, a major tourist destination of Kerala.
Trivandrum airport has two terminals--terminal 1 and terminal 2. The domestic one is terminal one and it has daily flight service to Chennai, Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Goa and Bangalore. The international terminal of the airport has operation of flight to foreign cities like Kuwait, Dubai, Singapore, Colombo, Sharjah, Muscat, Bahrain, Doha, Jeddah and Abu Dhabi. There are two gates in the international airport.
Karipur Airport or Calicut International Airport :
Calicut International Airport is the third one airport of Kerala located at Karipur in Malappuram district. The international airport status was given to this airport in February, 2006. Calicut railway station is about 26 kilometers from this airport. This airport is also known as the Kozhikode Airport.
Karipur Airport has both domestic and international flight operation. It has domestic flights to Cochin, Mangalore, Mumbai, Trivandrum, Bangalore, Chennai, Goa, Chennai, Coimbatore, and Delhi. The international flights are to the cities like Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, Bahrain, Doha, Dubai, Kuwait, Muscat, Salalah, Sharjah, etc.
