Tourism in Andaman and Nicobar Islands is still in development stages. So to keep the fragile eco system safe, many restrictions have been imposed in certain areas. There are mandatory rules that are to be followed by all tourists to these wonder islands. Make sure you are aware of all the rules and regulations on Andaman and Nicobar islands to ensure an enjoyable vacation.

Entry Formalities

Foreign nationals are permitted to stay in the islands for 30 days. If required, the permit can be extended by another 15 days with permission from the Immigration counter at Port Blair Airport or Harbour upon arrival on production of their passports containing a valid Indian Visa. It is absolutely free of cost.

With this permit, Night halt are allowed at certain places : South Andaman Island, Middle Andaman Island and Little Andaman Island (except tribal reserve), Neil Island, Havelock Island, Long Island, Diglipur, & Baratang.

Indian nationals need no permit to visit Andamans. However, permits are required to visit Nicobar Islands and other tribal areas, which are given in exceptional cases. Application on a prescribed form may be addressed to the Deputy Commissioner, Andaman District, Port Blair.


1.Foreign Nationals are required to obtain a permit from the immigration authorities soon after landing on the islands.

2.Visit only the permitted areas in the Islands.

3.Consult life guards before entering the sea.

4.Keep the beaches and environment clean.

5.Observe decency and decorum in dress.

6. For Scuba Diving avail the service of Scuba Dive instructions having certification of international professional organizations like PADI, CMAS, NAUI, BSAC or SSI for safe diving experience.

1.Do not enter into restricted/tribal areas. Do not take video, film or photographs inside Tribal Reserve areas or of the indigenous tribes.

2.Do not carry sea fans and seashells unless specific permits are obtained from the Fisheries department. Do not collect dead coral or touch/break live coral. Do not stand on the coral reef while snorkeling/Scuba diving.

3.Do not enter the National parks without permission.

4.Do not stay on the beaches or the forest areas during nights by putting up own tents/hammocks.

5.Do not light fire in the forest areas.

6.Do not throw garbage and plastics in public places, beaches and into the sea.

Essentials to be carried

1.Carry with you good number of Cotton clothes. It is hot and humid here throughout the year.

2.Keep handy a first aid kit. The kit should have necessary medicines like Aspirin, Paracetamol, and Vitamin tablets.

3.Make sure you bring all the documents required. Always keep with you your passport, identity proof and permits when traveling inside the islands.

4.During afternoons, it becomes really hot. It is advised to carry tanning ointments, sun block ointments, a pair of sunglasses and hats.

How To Reach Andaman and Nicobar Islands

The Andaman group of Islands are well connected by Air and Sea. There are regular passenger ship services available to Port Blair from the Indian cities of Chennai, Kolkata and Vishakapatnam. There are also regular domestic flight services to Port Blair from Chenna, Kolkata, and from New Delhi. From port Blair, one can take ships to different islands in Andaman and to Nicobar Islands. Best Time To Visit

The most favored time to visit Andaman and Nicobar Islands is between October and December as the climate is quite pleasurable. People planning to visit after February can expect slightly humid and warm conditions.
